MADRID, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Trent Alexander-Arnold's difficult start to his Real Madrid career continues with the news that the right-back will be out of action for several weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in his side's 2-1 win at home to Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Alexander-Arnold returned to the Madrid side after having been a substitute at the weekend, but lasted just four minutes before going down holding his left hamstring and being replaced by Dani Carvajal.
The injury is likely to sideline the ex-Liverpool man for several weeks, including the October international break.
Alexander-Arnold has not had the best start to his Real Madrid career, with coach Xabi Alonso preferring veteran Carvajal for matches away from home.
The defender's stuttering form saw him left out of the last England squad by coach Thomas Tuchel, although he may have hoped for a recall for the forthcoming matches against Wales and Latvia.
Alexander-Arnold is now likely to miss league games against Espanyol, Levante, Villarreal and the derby away to Atletico Madrid and the long Champions League visit to play FC Kairat in Kazakhstan, which Carvajal will also miss after being sent off following a confrontation with Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli. ■
