HARBIN, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- A court in northeastern China on Wednesday ordered the confiscation of illicit gains from Li Chuanliang, a former senior official who was suspected of corruption and fled overseas.
Li was accused of embezzlement, bribery, the abuse of power and the misappropriation of public funds while serving in various government posts in Jixi City, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, according to the Intermediate People's Court of Mudanjiang in Heilongjiang.
After being at large for more than a year, he didn't return to China to stand trial, prompting prosecutors to seek the confiscation of his illegal assets, the court said.
It ruled that assets linked to Li's alleged crimes should be seized, including money, real estate, company shares and related proceeds.
It determined that objections raised by nine related parties, including Li's daughter and others who claimed property rights, were unfounded.
Public hearings were held in August. ■
