JUBA, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- The 13th batch of the Chinese medical team to South Sudan on Tuesday provided Christmas gifts to vulnerable South Sudanese children at an orphanage in Juba, the country's capital.
Robert Bida Samson, executive director of the Confident Children out of Conflict (CCC), a charitable organization, commended the Chinese medical team for their commitment and support spanning a decade toward vulnerable children.
"We are grateful to the Chinese people for their tremendous support. It has been their consistent and tremendous support that puts a smile on these children," Bida said.
The Chinese medical team, together with a visiting delegation from east China's Anhui Province, provided cooking oil, snacks, and medicine to children at the orphanage.
Established in 2007, CCC accommodates about 62 children who have been abandoned or orphaned, as well as survivors of revenge attacks, early child marriage, and gender-based violence.
"It has been a long journey for us, and we are grateful that we are instilling hope in children who had already lost hope," Bida said, adding that the routine visits by Chinese medical teams have transformed the lives of these children.
Zhang Erqing, head of the team, said that the gifts offered to the children are a symbol of the enduring friendship they have with South Sudanese children.
"We come here regularly to check on these children's health because their health is very important. You can see that most of the children are healthy, and whenever they develop medical complications, we are always ready to provide them with medication and treatment," Zhang said. ■
