RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Argentine Martin Anselmi has been appointed manager of Botafogo after agreeing to a two-year contract, the Brazilian club said on Monday.
The former Porto boss replaces Davide Ancelotti, the son of Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who left by mutual agreement last week.
"Martin Anselmi is Botafogo's new manager. Welcome, professor!," read a brief statement on Botafogo's social media pages.
Anselmi, who never played professional football, has been out of work since parting ways with Porto after the FIFA Club World Cup in July.
His managerial career has also included spells at Chile's Union La Calera, Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle and Mexican club Cruz Azul.
Botafogo finished sixth in Brazil's 20-team top flight in 2025, a year after winning both the domestic league title and the Copa Libertadores. ■
