MEXICO CITY, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Mexico U23 defender Tony Leone has joined Pumas UNAM on loan from Monterrey, both clubs said on Monday.
The 21-year-old center-back will be tied to the Mexico City side until December 2026 with an option to make the move permanent.
"Center-back Antonio Leone is now a Puma. Welcome to your new home, Tony," Pumas said on social media.
Leone made 10 first-team appearances across all competitions for Monterrey following his January 2024 move from Los Angeles FC.
This year he played just two matches for Los Rayados, entering as a late substitute on both occasions.
"Leone is joining Pumas to gain playing time and experience that will allow him to continue developing his football career," Monterrey said on its official website.
"Club de Futbol Monterrey thanks him for his contribution and wishes him continued success in life and on the pitch."
Monterrey reached the semifinals of the 2025 Liga MX Apertura tournament while Pumas UNAM was eliminated in the play-in round that preceded the quarterfinals. ■
